Biography

Dr. Turgay Öngel was born in Adana-Turkey. 

 

He received his medical education in İstanbul University,
İstanbul Faculty of Medicine (Çapa Tıp Fakültesi) and obtained MD degree in 1996. He got residency in Family Medicine in Çukurova University (Balcalı) and Adana Numune Training and Research hospitals. He obtained associate degree in Healthcare Management in 2020.

 

He worked in public health system for 6 years, then resigned and started to work in private healthcare. He worked in Antalya Anatolia Hospital as a medical manager. He leaded and worked in foundation of the biggest private hospital in Antalya in 2005. Afterwards he was appointed as the Vice Head Physician of the hospital and the Medical Director for Informatics.

 

Later he moved back to his hometown in 2007 and started to work in U.S. Air Force Base in Incirlik. He worked at the Family Practice Clinic as a Primary Care Physician. He did examination of patients, diagnose and treat a wide-range of pediatric and adult acute and chronic diseases and injuries. He provided primary and secondary preventive care.

 

Then he started to work in Adana Acıbadem Hospital. He founded Check-up– Health and Wellness clinic in this hospital and worked here for about 5 years.

 

He was selected as the Best Check-up Physician in Acıbadem Healthcare Group (among 13 hospitals in Turkey) twice in 2015 and 2016.

 

Since 2018 he has been working as a freelance Family Physician. 

 

He wrote articles in newspapers and magazines and gave speeches on national TV broadcasts many times on healthy life style.

 

He was awarded a prize in National Scientific Research Contest in 1999 with his scientific research on breastfeeding.

He worked voluntarily in Marmara earthquake with French NGO / MSF (Doctors without Borders) in 1999.

He worked in Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and Tanzania (Zanzibar) for humanitarian aid purposes in 2007, 2008 and 2010.

 

He is married and has two children. His mother tongue is Turkish. He is fluent in English and and also can speak German. He plays tennis, ride bicycle and likes sailing.
